As a personal chef in Atlanta, I use an array of spices to create fantastic dishes for my clients.  However, salt and pepper are must-have ingredients in any kitchen.  In a previous post I shared what I know about salt. Now, it’s time for pepper.

Pepper (also known by its botanical name, piperaceae, or piper nigrum for black pepper) derives from peppercorns that grow in vines. Pepper vines reach maturity after three yea...

The holiday season is upon us. It is a time for planning get-togethers with friends and family and looking forward to the new year ahead. Hopefully, you’ll have some vacation time available to take a breather from the nonstop pace of work and email.

The holidays also kick off a frenzy of shopping for gifts for loved ones, significant others, co-workers and friends. Some people in your circles will be easy to shop for. Others, not so...

Salt is a well known word but an easily misunderstood ingredient. This mineral has been used for centuries to preserve, cure and season. Every household has some form of salt in their pantry. As a personal chef in Atlanta, I use salt every day as one of my core ingredients.

Salt has such a familiar taste that we sometimes forget its presence in our food. We all love flavorful foods and salt is the ingredient that enhances flavors an...

People in the greater Atlanta area are savvy, social and fun. We love getting together with friends for girls night out and Monday Night Football at the mancave. We enjoy both date nights and anniversary dates. We celebrate birthdays, graduations and holidays with style.

If you're planning to host a casual gathering or special event in Atlanta, you may be wondering whether to handle cooking responsibilities yourself or hire a someo...

I am often asked whether I provide private chef or personal chef services in Atlanta. My answer is usually "Yes!"

The two culinary roles are very similar but not exactly synonymous.

A personal chef will prepare a meal in your home for you and the guests attending your special occasion. Special occasions in Atlanta run the gamut from casual gatherings to office parties to graduation celebrations; from romantic dinner dates to wedding...

Taco Tuesday. Today, the alliterative phrase rolls off our tongues with ease. However, up until a few years ago, using the phrase without permission could get you into hot water.  Taco Tuesday was started in the early 1980’s by Taco John’s, a food chain restaurant. Taco John’s trademarked the phrase in 1989 and vigorously defended it against unauthorized use  up until 2010.  Now the phrase is used liberally without retaliation.

Summertime in Atlanta means blue skies and sunshine. It also means sweltering heat. The thermometer reaches the 90s but outside it feels like triple digit temperatures.

It’s a perfect time for ice cream! July is Ice Cream Month and July 19, 2015 is National Ice Cream Day in the United States.

President Reagan proclaimed National Ice Cream Day in 1984, the same year I arrived in the United States from Nicaragua. Back then, abo...

The closest thing Banderas Catering has to a birthday is June 14th, Flag Day. “Banderas” is the Spanish word for “flags.” I chose the name Banderas because it best represents my culinary style. I enjoy creating delectable international cuisine.

As a private chef in Atlanta, I take great delight in preparing meals from cultures all around the world. I prepare these meals with great care in the homes of people all over the metropol...
